Tillandsia Tenuifolia Compact

Tenuifolia Compact is a wonderfully chunky, compact form of Tillandsia tenuifolia. Rather than growing tall and wispy, this air plant develops a full, rounded shape with sturdy leaves that grow densely from the centre, giving it a surprisingly substantial appearance.

One of its most interesting features is its ability to change colour with its growing conditions. In bright light and the right temperatures, the leaves can develop beautiful shades of red, sometimes deepening into rich purple tones. The stronger the light, the more dramatic the colouring can become.

Tillandsia tenuifolia is a mesic airplant, meaning it naturally comes from environments with more regular moisture than the drier habitats preferred by xeric Tillandsias. Because of this, Tenuifolia Compact generally appreciates brighter, filtered light rather than intense, hot direct sun, along with more frequent watering than many of the silvery, xeric varieties. It should be allowed to dry thoroughly between waterings, but it shouldn't be left dry for extended periods.
