Tillandsia Ionantha Fuego

Ionantha Fuego (“fiery”) is one of the most popular air plants—and it’s easy to see why! When it’s getting ready to bloom, the normally silvery-green leaves transform into a spectacular fiery red, giving this little Tillandsia an almost glowing appearance. The colour intensifies as the plant flowers, producing delicate tubular blooms in a vivid violet-purple.

Fuego is a compact form of Tillandsia ionantha, a highly variable species native to parts of Mexico and Central America. Like other ionantha, it has a dense rosette of slender leaves covered in tiny trichomes.
