Tillandsia King Kong Butzii x Ionantha with bud

This unusual air plant hybrid is a must-have for your collection. Tillandsia ‘King Kong’ combines the distinctive shape of T. butzii with the compact colouring and form of T. ionantha, creating an air plant with plenty of personality.

One of its most fascinating features is the reptilian-like pattern on its bulbous base, inherited from its T. butzii parent. The intricate markings give the base an almost scaled appearance, while its slender, recurving leaves are covered in fine trichomes that give the plant a soft, silvery-grey look.

And it gets even more dramatic when it’s ready to bloom. The foliage develops a brilliant pink blush before producing a short pink flower spike topped with beautiful tubular purple flowers.

With time, ‘King Kong’ can also produce pups around its base, eventually growing into a unique cluster. Its unusual shape, reptilian markings and spectacular colour change make this a real standout for any Tillandsia collection.
