Tillandsia Bulbosa Subtilis

Tillandsia Bulbosa v. Subtilis is a more delicate take on the classic Bulbosa, with a noticeably slender and upright growth habit. Its narrow, tapering leaves twist and curl in all directions, giving it that fun, slightly wild look that makes Bulbosa so distinctive.

Compared to the more familiar Bulbosa forms, Subtilis stays smaller and more delicate, with finer foliage and a more upright shape. Its swollen base adds to its character, while the long, curling leaves give it an almost little-green-octopus appearance.

When it’s ready to bloom, the upper leaves and floral bracts can take on shades of pink and red before producing small purple to lavender tubular flowers. Unlike the Guatemala form of Bulbosa, however, Subtilis does not develop that intense fiery-red bloom spike.
